Del Frisco’s Double Eagle: Prime Beef in Philadelphia’s Grandest Dining Room
Some restaurants decorate; Del Frisco’s inherited. Housed in a landmark 1920s bank building near City Hall, the Philadelphia Double Eagle turned a marble banking hall into a three-level steakhouse where red-draped balconies overlook the main floor and a three-story wine tower rises through the middle of it all like a monument to good decisions.
The Story
When the steakhouse arrived in late 2008, the design team kept the bones of the historic bank intact — columns, soaring ceilings, even the original vault, which now serves as the most requested private dining room in the building. With more than five hundred seats across three floors, it became one of the city’s grandest restaurant spaces, a favorite for milestone dinners and corporate celebrations alike.
What to Order
The kitchen deals in USDA Prime beef, hand-cut and precisely seared, alongside Japanese A5 wagyu for special occasions. Start with Del’s jumbo lump crab cake in Cajun lobster cream — a signature for good reason — or the wagyu meatballs with tomato fondue and manchego. Cold-water lobster tails and seafood towers anchor the raw side; lobster mac and cheese is the indulgent supporting act. Breads, dressings and desserts are made from scratch daily, and the finale belongs to the butter cake or the lemon doberge cake with its six layers of citrus and buttercream. A wine list of over a thousand selections covers every budget and mood.
The Space
Three stories of preserved bank grandeur: marble, columns, velvet-draped balconies and that glittering wine tower. Downstairs, the Vault Room hosts private dinners behind the original steel door — one of Philadelphia’s most memorable event spaces.
Who It’s For
Anniversary couples, visiting executives, families marking graduations, and anyone who wants their steak dinner to feel like an event.
Good to Know
Do I need a reservation? Yes for evenings and weekends; lunch is often easier to book.
What are the signatures? Prime steaks, the jumbo lump crab cake, lobster mac and cheese and the butter cake.
Is it good for private events? Exceptional — several private rooms including the original bank vault.
Does the menu go beyond steak? Yes — lobster tails, seafood towers, fresh fish and substantial salads.
Is there a dress code? No strict rule, but smart attire suits the room; most guests dress for the occasion.
